Made the reservation 3 weeks ahead of time. Called 4 days before to confirm they would have the minivan we requested. Called at noon the day we were picking up and were told the van was "sitting there waiting for us". When we got there for our 5pm pickup they DID NOT have a minivan, apparently never did according to the employee we spoke to, and had to give us an Explorer "for the same price". Yes it was the same number of seats. It was NOT the same level of leg room or comfort. Yes it was an SUV. It was NOT the same amount of storage. Yes it was a 2016. It was NOT the same gas mileage. The trip was cramped and crowded and uncomfortable after we EXPLICITLY verified our reservations. Furthermore, the rear sensors for backing up were damaged, something well over 6 months old according to the paperwork in the glovebox, and were excruciatingly annoying to all especially my special needs child. Overall the persons we dealt with were polite, appropriately apologetic, and good at their jobs. Unfortunately the company they work for lacks the same values. The employees are the SOLE reason this rating isn't lower. I will NEVER rent from this company again.

I had a very bad experience yesterday. I booked a car for $80 for a day. The lady Lisa was very rude with me. I have used a coupon which had 35% off. When i went to pick up the car, she said that it was some particular child program company and I cannot use it. I said that okay you add 35% and give the car to me. But she said no and the current actual cost is $275 for that car. i don't know how $275 came. Immediately i checked for other car in airport and i got an another car for same price. She is spoiling the AVIS brand name

Absolute worst service I ever experienced. They have one person and 4 people waiting. Refused to allow me to leave until they checked the car in. Spent over 40 minutes dropping a car off. I'm done with Avis, Enterprise your my new best friend.

I went to the Tweed New Haven, Ct branch and received excellent service, and I complained to customer service. I then heard from the Jesse, the district manager, and she was very apologetic. That said, when I want to rent a car, I either have to drive out of my way or deal with this branch, and it can be a little inconvenient. I looked up this location on google reviews, and this Lisa person is consistently mentioned as someone who has berated customers, thrown them out, and even called the police on several (which she also threatened of me). I did not use inappropriate language, make any threats, or use any insults. I became a little agitated when I did not receive very good service. That is all I am guilty of. I told the district manager, and I will mention here that I do not understand how someone like this could be allowed to continue to represent Avis. I have witnessed her behavior long enough. Avoid this location like the plague. Go anywhere else.

I personally think one star is generous. They have an out of control franchisee at their Newington, CT office, which is the closest to my house. I have tried to avoid this branch, but its proximity finally made me go. In the past, I have gone there, and I have witnessed the branch manager/Franchise owner (Lisa) yelling at customers either on the phone or in line in front of me. I have received dirty or sub-par cars consistently there. I showed up this time, and the car was not ready. Even though I was paying with my company card, she demanded to see my employee ID to prove it was a corporate rental. Typically, they collect these from us at the home office so we don’t lose them, but I happened to have it thankfully. When I asked why they needed to see it (since I've been renting for years, it's never been requested), instead of explaining it to me as if I were a human being, Lisa told me that she was entitled to ask and since she did, I must provide it. Having spent a half hour there already, I was frustrated. I rummaged through my briefcase, and produced the ID, and I placed it down forcefully on the counter. She told me that this was inappropriate and that she was on the verge of denying service to me. I then reminded her that I had to call corporate on her once before (5 years ago), and with that, she denied service to me.

Be careful. Same thing happened to me, however she did call the police and god knows what she said to them but it worked. I got arrested, billed for >$800 in fraudulent charges, and Lisa kept my sunglasses and everything else left in the car I returned.
